Chapter 3
“intercultural communication” presented by group 1:
Chapter 3
Intercultural Communication was presented by group one. They did an amazing,
with their presentation. what I like about group one presentation Is the way
they set up their PowerPoint, the colors of the pictures, and how they design
it. This chapter focus on the relationship between communication and culture.
Chapter 3 explains how culture relates and differs when it comes to
circumstances that include communication. The first thing group one did was
define culture and the role of communication in its cultural system of shared
values, beliefs, attitudes. And norms that guide what is considered appropriate
among a group of people that have developed a similar life experience. Intercultural
communication is the verbal and nonverbal interaction between people from
different cultural backgrounds. Intercultural communication involves sharing of
information across different cultures. Social groups include individuals from
different social ethics, religions, and educational backgrounds. Intercultural
communication training is important to break down cultural barriers. To share
information and ideas among cultures. It is necessary to know one own culture.
A culture of a surrounding group, the domain group culture, and co-cultures of
gender, religion, or age group, etc. Group one talks about Race VS Ethnicity,
how they both are different. Race is described as a physical trait. And
ethnicity is a term that described shared culture, the practice, values, and
beliefs of a group. This might include shared language, religion, and
tradition. Like race, ethnicity, individuals may identify or self-identify with
ethnicity complex. In group one presentation, they also talk about sexual
orientation how many people identify themselves differently. Some people may identify
as pansexual, bisexual, heterosexual, asexual, homosexual.
Chapter 9
“communicating in groups” pretended by group 2:
Communicating
in Groups this chapter was presented by group 2 which each group member did a
fantastic job with their presentation. This chapter discusses the importance of
keeping in mind the different types of groups and understanding the difference
between them, which is key to overcome barriers. Group 2 starts off their
presentation by talking about the nature types of groups. They start the
presentation by defining Family, which is many individuals that share history.
The natural type of group is a social group, support group, Service group,
workgroup, virtual group, and interest group. A social group is a group of two
or more people sharing similar interests social group allow everyone in the
group to state their thoughts and opinion. A support group is people that come
together to encourage. An interest group shares a common interest. There are 5
Staged of group development, including Forming, storming, norming, performing,
and adjourning. In groups, conflict can occur it is very hard for conflict to
not occur in groups but, it is up to the group members to prevent conflict from
happening in the first place. While working in groups, you must put your
differences aside especially, cultural differences. Or any other kind of
differences you may have with any group members. Working in groups, you must
focus on the bigger picture, which is to meet the common goal and focus on
doing the job the right way. Working in groups, it is always important to solve
conflict if it occurs. Ways you can solve conflict is to talk to each other
about the problem or seek help from the person in charge.
Chapter
10 “group leadership and problem-solving” presented by group 3:
Chapter 10
leadership and solving problem this chapter was presented by group 3 which I
feel like we did a great job with our presentation. Each member of the group
was great to work with especially, our group leaders Jorge and Waymond. This
chapter focuses on effective leadership and problem-solving in groups.
Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of
individuals. This chapter discusses how sometimes when we think of leadership,
we think of the person that is in charge. Many may even think we were born as
leaders in today world we as an individual understand that leadership, as a set
of communication, perform by any group members. Being a leader is helping
yourself and others to do the right thing. A leader helps sets direction and
built sets visions for everyone to stay on track and not lose control and focus
to meet a goal. A group may have a formal leader, an Informal emergent leader. I
have experienced leadership whenever doing a project, going out with my
friends. In our group presentation, we all shown leadership because we all as a
group came together and help each other whenever needed. We each had our
section to complete, and we divided the chapter and make sure that everyone had
something to do. In groups, there are task roles that help the group apply
information that contributes directly to complete a goal such as givers, which
provide content the role of givers, is usually well informed on the task. Seekers
and analyzers. Which helps the groups to analyze the content and reasoning of
the discussion. There are Maintenance roles which are a set of behaviors that
help the group develop. They are supporters, Interpreters, Harmonizers,
Mediators, Tension relievers. In groups there are also procedures roles, which
record the group accomplishment, provide logistics and decisions. The
procedural role is logistics coordinators, Expediters, Gatekeepers, and
recorders. Overall, the chapter presentation was a great way to start the class
because we learned about the different topics such as intercultural
communication, leadership and solving problems, communication in groups that we
did not know before. And the way each group member work together to make sure
we had a great presentation. For some reason, I always loved working with
groups because they encourage and motivate each other to do better.
