First Presentation Reflection
Chapter 3
In this chapter we cover Culture in communication. I was born into a family where my mom is American and my dad is Cuban this has allowed me to enjoy best of both worlds since I was born. Each of them have had different upbringings and traditions and I have been able to enjoy them all. For instance in the Cuban culture we do a big holiday celebration, known as Noche Buena. On this night we gather with family and roast a pig which we all get to feast on after cooking for many hours. The family gathers around the roast and drinks share stories of their childhood. Together we laugh and create new memories, as we communicate with our relatives and friends. The women gather in the kitchen and share recipes of the side dishes that will be shared when the pig is ready. These recipes were handed down from generation to generation. As young adults we now learn the family recipes that we too will share when we start a new family. On the other hand, the American side of my family does the same thing during Thanksgivings. We stuff the turkey together and make stuffing with recipes left to us from our ancestors. We make candied yams, corn casserole sweet ham, and pumpkin pies, as well as sweet potato pie. Unlike my Cuban culture, this celebration starts a couple of day before Thanksgiving and all of the side dishes and desserts are made in the kitchen together. We gather to eat in the early afternoon and gather to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving’s day parade on tv.
Chapter 9
When communicating in groups we are able to express our perspective son any given agenda. Our culture, upbringing and life experiences has a direct impact on how our conversation goes we all bring to the table a plethora of information and ideas that are different from one another. It is through these groups that we grow as individuals and see the different concepts and views form each other. Group communication is important it is through messages that groups make decisions, manage conflict and build the rapport that is necessary to keep the group going in difficult circumstances. The exchange of messages shapes what the group will be and what the group can accomplish.
Chapter

People working together in teams have the
potential to bring higher quality results than people working individually. When
team members come together and are assigned clear roles and are motivated, the
group will work more effectively. As well as communicating positive norms. An
example of this would be participating fully. Since I started college online we
have been given many group projects which has allowed me to interact with other
students who come from different high schools and have shared different life
experiences this has allowed much brainstorming when communicating what we will
share as a group project for our final presentations. Thorough the development
of our projects, we have been able to accomplish the task at hand. this has
permitted for our projects to be thorough and full of information with the opinions
of all included. it has developed our skills in effectively collaborate together.
I have been working at All Uniform Wear for the last two years, it has allowed me
to sharpen my skills in communicating with not only my coworkers but with all
essential workers that go there. We assist all customers in finding, ordering,
and embroidering their uniforms. Different team members of the store are in
charge of various departments. Together we form an exceptional team it takes explicate
communication by all of us in order to make the sale a success. While one of us
find the uniform the other colleague rings it up and it goes straight to the
embroidery department. The group all has well defined roles.
Very good!!!!
