Second Presentation Reflections - Samantha Ruiz

Second Presentation Reflections by Samantha Ruiz

In this blog we will talk about what we learned from the three presentations. These presentations include topics important to our society and our country. They are topics like gender inequality, climate change, and infrastructure.

Group 1: SPC 1017 Project on Gender Inequality

In this presentation we learned about the subtopics on infrastructure and it's important many aspects. The subtopics were history, social treatment, finance, and government. We saw that gender inequality plays a huge role in the daily lives of millions of people around the world. We learned about history including this like the women's suffrage movement in the 1800s-1900s. We also saw how they ended up gaining the right to vote. We saw the different milestones in women's history. We learned about the progress toward gender inequality in the United States. We were shown great interviews as well as important information on sexual harassment and sexism. We learned about the 4 types of sexual harassment. They are verbal/written, physical, non-verbal, and visual. We saw how cultures perceive the genders. We saw the communication and perceptions of others. We saw race and the wage gap and dialectics in gender inequality. We saw how active listening might actually solve financial inequality. We learned about gender inequality vs government and also discussed about the Roe V. Wade ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. We learned about the new horrible law that they wanted to legalize which would ban abortion, this is horrible because abortions will still happen no matter what. The problem is that now they will not be done professionally making it worse for the woman in danger who wants to have an abortion. The way this group set up their presentation was very well done. I like that they talked about very important topics pertaining to our country today. I found the videos they showed us to be very interesting. As a woman, I found a lot of the information provided to be very important. It is extremely sad to see what we go through as women. It feels though that despite all the progress we made, we still are not treated equally. It is also very disheartening to see that men want to control our bodies and tell us what to do with it.

Group 2: SPC 1017 Project on Climate Change

In this presentation we learned about the endless factors contributing to worsening the state of the planet. We saw the many factors which are the continuous warming of the earth, drought, rising sea levels, coral bleaching, and much more. We saw the endless kinds of threats to all kinds of life that are inhabiting earth. This threatens our future of humans and it also threatens the planets health. We also learned about the things we could do to help prevent further destruction. We saw many different topics. The topics were on sea life endangerment, corals role in society, benefits of coral reefs, helping the reefs, what happens to sea life, earth ethics (interview), severe weather, increasing allergens, why are seasonal allergies increasing, impact of climate change, air pollution, extreme heat, water quality impacts, water and food supply impacts, environmental degradation, land and soil degradation, water and atmospheric, degradation, cause and effect, what we can do to avoid environmental degradation, stop global warming, stop global warming by donating, and finally recycling. We learned about air pollution and how extremely harmful it is on our environment. We learned about how extreme heat affects our environment We were shown as an example the fires in Australia and how that affects our animals and humans. Because of fires like that, living organisms lose their homes. We also saw many informational videos and interviews. The colors and design of this presentation were beautifully done. The brochure was great and the way they presented lots of important information was also very great. This presentation made me realize that we should really start caring more for our planet. It is very frightening and alarming to know that if we don't take more care of our planet Earth, we may end up losing it forever. It made me realize that we may do little things on our day to day lives that we may not notice affects our environment. Things like using plastic or simply not recycling. It made me realize that we need to do better as a society. We have to take care of our planet Earth, because after all we only have one.

Group 3: SPC 1017 Project on Infrastructure

In this presentation on infrastructure we discussed and learned about the subtopics that are technology, construction, environment, financial, and about developing countries/cities. We learned about the different types of technology, the pros, the cons, and about technological infrastructure overall. The different types of technology include energy such as solar panels, agriculture infrastructure, nuclear power, network infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, space infrastructure and much more. We saw how infrastructure can benefit workers as well as how infrastructure can be harmful to our environment and society. We learned about how infrastructure affects our environment such as our ecosystems and much more. We learned about the construction aspect of it. We saw perspectives of the construction in other countries like in China vs our own, the United States. We saw the financial aspect. In this subtopic we learned how the costs of infrastructure affect our society's future and how it affects the country financially. The slides also showed us Biden's bipartisan bill. In developing countries/cities we saw information on both the world's fastest and slowing developing cities. We saw good informational videos and interviews on infrastructure. We saw an interview from Pete Buttigieg and from people that work around infrastructure itself. I loved the way our group presentation came along. I think we provided interesting information. I also love the surprise Kahoot game in the end of the presentation. I thought that was a good way to wrap up the project and a great way to get the audience involved to participate. I also felt that the design used on the presentation gave it a nice touch. The design does remind me a lot about infrastructure, I think it fit very well.
