Chapter 3 “intercultural communication” presented by group 1:
Culture is similar and different when it comes to communication. The main purpose is to be educated in the relationships between culture and communication. Studying different cultures and countries, which explains how to improve intercultural communication. Continents such as Asia and the Middle East have different values, and norms. Experiencing these new areas in different places may bring a state of anxiety. Which is amazing to learn different ways to communicate with others. Not everyone is the same worldwide and having experiences with communicating with people who aren’t with the same norm as you as an amazing opportunity. The effects of communication are in areas such as race, ethnicity, sex and gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, generation, and disability. Also, Communication brings such blockages the can come up during communication. Some blockages include anxiety and stereotypes of what we think is our norm.
Overall group 3 helped me understand the emphasis on communicating between cultures. Not only did we learn the differences between race and ethnicity. we also learn how one must be educated to speak among these different cultures and co-cultures. Not only did we learn about the different cultures but we also learned about gender identity, gender, sex, sexuality and many other important topics being educated amongst these ideas and such helps me understand how important communication is. Communicating is a vital role in today's society and paramount for society’s open-mindedness.
Chapter 9 “communicating in groups” pretended by group 2:
This chapter helped me learn the attributes of groups. The main purpose of this chapter is to explain the way to work well collaboratively. The chapter defined the types of groups, challenges, and group development. This was started by four stages by Tuckman in 1965. The stages start with forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. These stages will fall through smoothly by communicating perfectly with members of the group. Forming is the opening stage of group development. This helped explain how people in the group understand each other. Understanding each other is an important step into a great group. Many issues can come up during the groups such as conflict. Conflict can be caused in many ways. Everybody is different in communicating with others. Not everyone is from the same background which can cause conflict between each other. Besides that, we learned how to move around the conflict between each other. Having a sort of respect for each other can help overcome the conflict .I believe group 2 did an amazing job explaining communication between groups. These exceed with many key ideas and points. Explained the chapter very well and helped us all understand very well.
Chapter 10 “group leadership and problem-solving” presented by group 3:
Being part of group 3 and learning about chapter 10 was an amazing opportunity. We all learned the importance of leadership and teamwork in a group activity. The definition of leadership can be identified by themselves. For me, it's when a person helps themselves and others to do everything in a respectful and tactful manner. Having a leader in a group helps the tasks run smoothly and have no complications. Having a huge responsibility with others around you. Helping this task get completed as successfully as possible and help anybody that may be confused. This chapter helped show the important ways to have the team all very well collaborated. Setting up meetings with our team, taking notes, summarizing key ideas, staying focused, and asking questions. Systemic problem solving coming to play during ur team. Any group will be challenged to target any problem together. Following a few steps will help get these solved as soon as possible. This systematic problem-solving process was first to come up by John Dewey in 1933. These few steps will help solve any issue between a group. Helping ways to solving problems such as identifying the problem and asking questions. Analyzing the key issue and determine the criteria. Solving any problem can get very complex and overwhelming. Brainstorming ideas on the other hand will always be helpful.
The group project was an amazing opportunity for all of us and gave us a firsthand experience of virtual learning. This being my first college project was truly a great learning experience. A virtual online project isn’t the easiest due to differing schedules along with technological issues, but I believe my group made it work effortlessly and effectively. In the beginning, I had my doubts if we could get the project done right. This was my first college project and I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right. At the start, we were all nervous and didn’t really know how to start. As time went by we all started to get comfortable with each other and we knew doing our part of the project was all of our responsibility. There was even miscommunication between all of us, in the beginning; Not knowing how to complete the project with people, not knowing when it will be done, and differing class and work schedules. Later on, we were able to resolve all of our issues as a team through open communication. This was a successful learning experience, with the chapters being explained well by every team. I would totally do this experience again and would love to work with my group. This project will be appreciated and I’ll forever be grateful for this project.
